Grandpa’s Shed
Grandpa’s Shed
In 2024 I started managing social media for Grandpa's Shed, a fast-growing Bath events brand selling out 900+ capacity venues. What began as posters and graphics quickly evolved into something more interesting — with zero budget, a lot of craft wire and patience, I pitched and produced a stop-motion promotional reel that became the most engaged-with video among competitor accounts. I’ve since created 4 more reels that have helped distinguish the brand with a playful, subversive identity that resonates with Bath's student community.

Break into a saturated student events market without competing on the same terms as everyone else. Bath students are loyal to a vibe, not a lineup, so rather than chasing DJ hype and polished content, the goal was to build a brand with a real identity that kept people coming back and sellout the event advertised.

Bath students weren't chasing DJ culture, so I built a brand world around the mascot: Grandpa. The strategy was to lean into humour, personality and a distinctly human feel rather than polished promotion. Claymation, human-actor skits, candid event photography, fun recap videos and creative story posts, all held together by an irreverent, self-aware tone that treated the audience as people rather than ticket buyers. In a feed full of slick event promos, I thought that genuinely silly and handmade content would stop the scroll.

I taught myself stop-motion from scratch, built sets and characters by hand, storyboarded skits and shot frame by frame. Alongside that I shot and edited event photography, wrote and produced human-actor content, created recap videos with captions and developed a consistent visual and tonal identity across every post. The rough, handmade quality wasn’t a limitation, it was the whole idea.

Over 10 sold-out events including Komedia (900+ capacity). 1,700+ followers with posts averaging 300 likes and reels reaching 17,000+ views. The brand spread largely by word of mouth, which is the hardest metric to manufacture but the most meaningful one. A key competitor has 2,700+ followers but a fraction of the engagement, which reflects what the strategy was always about: building an audience that actually cares, not just one that exists.
